Storage & Handling

Macadamia kernels are a perishable food product and should be handled with the same care as any high-value natural food. Improper storage or handling can lead to oxidation and rancidity of the natural oils in the nut, negatively affecting shelf life, quality, and food safety.

To preserve freshness:
  • Store in a clean, dry, and pest-free environment
  • Keep product away from taint, dust, and direct sunlight
  • Maintain cool temperatures and avoid extended storage
  • Not vacuum packed; process promptly to avoid oxidation.

Under the recommended conditions, product shelf life is up to 12 months, as per WMO standards.

Macadamia kernels should be stored in their original, unopened packaging in a clean, dry, and environmentally controlled area. Ideal storage conditions include cool temperatures, low humidity, and protection from direct sunlight or strong odours. Maintaining stable conditions helps preserve freshness, flavour, and quality for longer shelf life.

To preserve freshness:
  • Temperature: 10–13°C
  • Relative Humidity: below 65%
  • No direct sunlight exposure
  • Free from dust, taint, insects, pests, or vermin
